Yankalilla FC stun Willunga FC on their home deck in Round 7

Around the Grounds – GSFL Round 7 THINK! Road Safety Round

While Victor Harbor FC continue on their merry way and remain undefeated after seven rounds, Yankalilla FC upset Willunga FC on their home deck and their first win over the Dees since Round 12, 2016.

Yankalilla have troubled a number of sides early in the season, but have struggled late in games. But a four goal last quarter was enough to keep the Dees at bay after they challenged late with two goals of their own in the last, only for the Tiges to respond with the last two goals of the game to take the well earned win and leave last year’s runner-up still winless after seven rounds.

Willunga FC will look to respond when they take on Mount Compass FC at home – the Dogs have had their own struggles losing their last four – and both teams will be desperate for a win in their celebratory seasons – the Dogs celebrating their Centenary, while Willunga FC celebrate their Sesquicentennial or 150th Club anniversary.

Yankallilla play Strathalbyn away and A-Grade coach Chad Simmons will be quietly confident that another four quarter performance could ruffle a few feathers.

The GSFL Match of the Round sees 1st v 3rd with Victor Harbor FC hosting Langhorne Creek FC.

The Creek’s only loss was at the Bay in a tight tussle, but Victor again appear on another level after making light work of another contender in Myponga -Sellicks. Bryce Gibbs was Best-on-Ground for the Roos with 5 goals.

In the other remaining games, McLaren FC are at home against Encounter Bay FC. The Premiers are starting to find their feet, but the Bays will be keen to reinforce their credentials and consolidate a top 2 spot on the ladder.

Lastly Myponga-Sellicks play Goolwa-Port Elliot at home. Playing coach Darren Shillabeer is the Leagues’ leading goal kicker with 39 goals from seven games. Averaging nearly 6 goals a game the Magpies will struggle to quell his presence in-front of goal.
